We get asked by quite a few people:

"What a POI is and why they would need one on their sat-nav units ? " 

A POI - is simply a "Point Of Interest" that is a place you might want to visit. Its different from a postcode, address, co-ordinates or favourite that you have on your sat-nav because its already "coded". We have already pre-calculated where the place is for you. It can also hold some extra information - like a phone number, description, opening times, road name, brand or shop name. To use a POI you just ask for it when searching on the satnav.

For example: I want to NAVIGATE TO - POI - MY NEAREST TESCO and a list appears of the nearest 10 TESCO - and shows which ones are  metro, superstores or express.

As you can imagine - these are very useful when you are in a new area. Lets say you a driving on the old North Road and suddenly note you need some fuel. You have no idea where the next services are -especially ones open at midnight !

                   

You tap into the satnav for 24hr petrol stations nearby and get a list of 10. 

You select the third one and to make sure dial its number (to make sure its open) - it is and so away you go, saved by technology !!!

Without a 24 hour petrol stations of the UK POI set - you would be in trouble ! You could get very stuck just guessing where to go at midnight !

You may only shop at Tesco, but when running out of fuel - you will settle for any petrol station !

- these are our own development, initially developed due to frustrations with multiple searches.  They offer an easy and effective way to find what you want without searching lots of POI categories.
